Sod Turn Ceremony Signals a Fresh Start
Pembridge is proud to share the milestone moment of the sod turn ceremony at Blakebrook Public School, held on 7 November 2024. This event marks the official start of construction for the school’s new, flood-resilient campus, an important step forward for a community that has faced significant challenges since the 2022 floods.
A Community Rebuild Begins
Blakebrook Public School’s four captains, Alicia Davison, Ayla Blizard, Darcy Bolt, and Massimo Feletti joined teacher Louise Tate and Relieving Principal Alaric Coulter to turn the first sod, symbolising hope and progress for students, staff, and families. The ceremony was a welcome moment of optimism after a period of uncertainty, as the community looked ahead to a brighter future for local education.
Resilience and Renewal
The new school will feature an elevated, flood-resistant design, with four modern classrooms, a library, a canteen, administration areas, and undercover walkways. Prefabricated modules, manufactured off-site for speed and cost efficiency, will be assembled atop a robust steel gantry, ensuring the campus is prepared for future flood events.
While the new build brings excitement, there is also a sense of nostalgia as the community bids farewell to the original wooden buildings that have been part of Blakebrook’s history for generations. As Relieving Principal Alaric Coulter noted, the journey has been emotional, but the resilience of students and staff has been a powerful force in moving forward.
Looking Forward
With construction now underway, the new Blakebrook Public School is on track for completion in Term 2, 2025, subject to weather and site conditions. Pembridge is honoured to support School Infrastructure NSW and the Blakebrook community in delivering a future-focused, resilient learning environment.
