Sod Turn Ceremony Marks the Start of a New Era
Pembridge is proud to have joined the Broadwater community, School Infrastructure NSW, and key stakeholders to mark a significant milestone: the official sod turn ceremony for the new Broadwater Public School. This event, held in July 2024, signified the beginning of construction on a modern, flood-resilient campus designed to serve future generations in the Northern Rivers.
A Symbolic Start After the 2022 Floods
The sod turn was a moment of hope and renewal for Broadwater, which suffered extensive damage during the devastating 2022 floods. The ceremony brought together students, teachers, families, government representatives, and project partners to celebrate the start of a project that will deliver a safer, more resilient learning environment.
Community Leaders and Local Support
The event was attended by local dignitaries, including Minister for Recovery and the North Coast Janelle Saffin and Member for Clarence Richie Williamson, who joined school leaders and students in breaking ground on the new site. Their presence underscored the strong government and community commitment to rebuilding and investing in the region’s future.
“Turning the first sod today is more than just the start of construction; it’s a symbol of our community’s resilience and determination to provide the very best for our children,” said Relieving Principal Bronwyn Cole. “We are grateful for the support and look forward to seeing our new school take shape.”
Fast-Tracked for the Community
Thanks to streamlined planning and approvals under the NSW Reconstruction Authority Act, construction was able to commence quickly, reflecting the urgent need to restore local education facilities. The new school will feature elevated, flood-resilient buildings, flexible learning spaces, and modern amenities, all designed to withstand future challenges and provide a vibrant hub for learning.
Looking Ahead
Pembridge is honoured to play a role in this transformative project, working alongside School Infrastructure NSW and the Broadwater community. The sod turn ceremony is just the first step in delivering a school that will inspire, protect, and empower students for years to come.
Stay tuned for further updates as Broadwater Public School’s new campus rises, stronger and more resilient than ever.
