In 2022, the Northern Rivers community faced unimaginable devastation as historic floods swept through Northern NSW. Wardell Vale Public School, a cherished hub of learning and connection, was among the casualties — The emotional toll on their students, families, and staff was profound, compounding the trauma of loss with the urgent need to rebuild not just a school, but a sanctuary for healing and hope.

A Beacon of Resilience
In September 2024, we proudly reopened the doors to a future-proof and resilient school, rebuilt by the NSW Government in just 7 months—from site establishment to operational readiness. This remarkable achievement stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment to the community’s recovery. Funded by iCare, the new Empire Vale Public School is more than a building; it’s a symbol of resilience, designed to rise above adversity.

Engineered for Safety, Designed for Community
The new school is raised 3.3m above ground and sits on top a steel gantry, elevated above the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) level. Ground-floor amenities feature flood-resilient materials and flexible spaces, ensuring minimal disruption and swift recovery. The school now includes three bright, modern classrooms, a revitalized library, efficient admin offices, and a welcoming canteen—all seamlessly integrated into lush, reimagined landscapes. Upgraded infrastructure, including dedicated fire tanks, underscores our commitment to safety and sustainability.
